- Diese Liste zählt die Juniorenweltmeister im Schach (Altersklasse Unter 20) auf. Seit 1951 ermittelt die FIDE den Juniorenweltmeister im Schach. Zunächst im Abstand von zwei Jahren begonnen, wird die Juniorenweltmeisterschaft inzwischen alljährlich ausgespielt. Im Laufe der Zeit hat die FIDE verschiedene jüngere Alterskategorien eingerichtet, deren Sieger Jugendweltmeister der entsprechenden Altersklasse genannt werden. Aufgelistet sind zunächst die Juniorenweltmeister in der (heutigen) Kategorie Unter 20 (U20). Seit 1983 wird hier gleichfalls eine Juniorenweltmeisterin ermittelt. Mädchen ist es freigestellt, bei den Jungenturnieren anzutreten; es werden aber ebenso Weltmeisterschaften ausschließlich für das weibliche Geschlecht ausgetragen. Der Weltschachbund FIDE unterscheidet zwischen „Junioren“ und „Junioren Mädchen“. So nahm etwa im Jahre 2008 die erst 14-Jährige Chinesin Hou Yifan bei der Weltmeisterschaft der Junioren (U20) teil, die ansonsten ausschließlich von ihren männlichen Kollegen besetzt war.
- The World Junior Chess Championship is an under-20 chess tournament (players must have been under 20 years old on 1 January in the year of competition) organized by the World Chess Federation (FIDE). The idea was the brainchild of William Ritson-Morry and he organized the 1951 inaugural event to take place in Birmingham, England. Subsequently, it was held every two years until 1973, when an annual schedule was adopted. In 1983, a separate tournament for girls was established. Each FIDE member nation may select one entrant except for the host nation, which may select two. Some players are seeded into the tournament based on Elo rating and top finishes in previous championships. The first championship was an 11-round Swiss system tournament. In subsequent championships the entrants were divided into sections, and preliminary sectional tournaments were used to establish graded finals sections (Final A, Final B, etc.). Since 1975 the tournaments have returned to the Swiss format. Originally the winner was awarded the title International Master if he had not already received it. Currently the winner receives the Grandmaster or Woman Grandmaster title, and the second and third place finishers receive the International Master or Woman International Master titles. Four winners - Boris Spassky, Anatoly Karpov, Garry Kasparov, and Viswanathan Anand - have gone on to win the World Chess Championship.

W 1985 r. odbyły się pierwsze mistrzostwa w grupie do 14 lat, w 1986 r. – do 10 i 12 lat, a w 1987 – do 18 lat, choć turniej ten nie posiadał statusu oficjalnych mistrzostw świata (nosił nazwę Pucharu świata juniorów do lat 18); oficjalne mistrzostwa w tej kategorii wiekowej po raz pierwszy odbyły się w 1989 r. Najkrótszą historię mają mistrzostwa świata do lat 8 – po raz pierwszy rozegrane zostały w 2006 r.
