The construction of the Wolseong 1 started in 1976, and was completed in 1982. In the following year, the power plant began commercially operating with the PHWRs that has a capacity of 678,000 kW. As the construction of each Wolseong 2, 3 and 4 with a capacity of 70,000 kW were completed respectively in 1997, 1998 and 1999, Wolseong Nuclear Power plant site has been successfully operating the four PHWRs plants. Sinwolseong No. 1 and No. 2 are currently under construction which is estimated to be completed until 2011–12. The power plant supplies about 5% of South Korea's electricity.

Dezember 1982 kritisch und ging am 15. April 1983 ans öffentliche Netz. Der zweite Block Wolseong 2 hat 700 MW Leistung. Er wurde 1991 begonnen, wurde am 1. April 1997 kritisch und ging 15. Juni 1997 an das öffentliche Netz. Wolseong 3 wurde am 20. Februar 1998 kritisch und ging am 15. Juni 1998 ans Netz. Es handelt sich dabei um einen 650 MW Reaktor. Wolseong 4 wurde am 10. April 1999 kritisch und ging am 1. Oktober 1999 ans Netz. Auch hier handelt es sich um einen 650 MW-Reaktor. Die Blöcke Wolseong 5 und 6 befinden sich in Bau. Anders als bei den Blöcken 1-4 handelt es sich hier um 900 MW Reaktoren vom koreanischen Standard-Design. Die Fertigstellung ist für September 2009 (Block 5) bzw. September 2010 (Block 6) geplant.
