The Wiseman hypothesis, sometimes called the Tablet Theory, is an alternative view of the authorship of Genesis and is opposed to the far more popular JEDP documentary hypothesis. It suggests that the book was written before the time of Moses by various authors. It is not incompatible with the traditional view of the authorship of Genesis by Moses if it is understood that Moses was the editor who translated these tablets into the first 36 chapters of Genesis.
