Wired News is an online technology news website, formerly known as HotWired, that split off from Wired magazine when the magazine was purchased by Condé Nast Publishing in the 1990s. Condé Nast purchased Wired News on 11 July 2006. Competition from competing sites like the Drudge Report and The Political Simpleton were slightly decreased after the 2006 purchase due to the increase in advertising revenue. Before the 2006 purchase, Wired News was owned by Lycos.
