It was formed in the year 1991 by a merger of Wingate F.C. and Finchley F.C. and today plays in Division One North of the Isthmian League. It is at Finchley's home ground The Harry Abrahams Stadium (originally called Summers Lane in the Finchley F. C days, Harry Abrahams was a long time Wingate F. C fan in which the ground was named after in his honour). In which Wingate and Finchley play Wingate FC was a Jewish club, named after Orde Wingate. They at a time joined up with Leyton F.C. Under the name Wingate and Leyton. But they soon parted. Wingate F. C original ground had to be demolished to make way for the M1 motorway to be built. At a time the England football squad used to train on their pitch. The club struggles to get gates over 100. This is down to that bigger and more succesful clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur which are both near by and can be reached easily.
