General Sir William Godfrey Fothergill Jackson, GBE, KCB, MC (1917 – 1999) was a British Army officer, military historian, author and Governor of Gibraltar. He studied at Shrewsbury School, the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and King's College, Cambridge. He saw war service with the British Army in Norway, North Africa, Sicily, Italy and the Far East during World War II. His postwar career included instructing at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and at the British Army Staff College commanding the Queen's Gurkha Engineers in Malaya, and holding senior staff appointments in the British Ministry of Defence. He became a general officer in 1966 and was quartermaster general to the British Army before becoming Governor of Gibraltar in 1978. He was knighted in 1971 and died in 1999.
