WikiTrust is a plug-in for MediaWiki that implements automated algorithm to assess the credibility of content and author reputation. When installed on a MediaWiki website it enables users of that website to obtain information about the author, origin, and reliability of that website's wiki text. Content that is stable, based on an analysis of article history, is displayed in normal black-on-white type, and content that is not stable is highlighted in varying shades of yellow or orange.

- WikiTrust is een methode voor het meten van de betrouwbaarheid van artikelen in een Wikipedia. De methode werd ontwikkeld aan de Universiteit van Californië te Santa Cruz. Een eerste demo verscheen in december 2007 online. Uitgangspunt van de methode is de gedachte dat hoe langer een bewering in een artikel niet gewijzigd wordt, hoe groter de betrouwbaarheid zal zijn. Bij de berekening wordt allereerst de betrouwbaarheid van elke auteur vastgesteld, door te kijken naar hoe lang diens bijdragen ongewijzigd blijven bij bewerkingen door andere auteurs. Vervolgens wordt voor elk woord in een artikel de betrouwbaarheid bepaald door te kijken naar de eerder berekende reputatie van de auteur ervan en naar hoeveel bewerkingen het woord heeft overleefd. De betrouwbaarheid van een artikel, of preciezer gezegd van passages in een artikel, wordt inzichtelijk gemaakt door woorden met een kleur te markeren. Het project wordt gesponsord door de Wikimedia Foundation.

WikiTrust is a project undertaken by the Online Collaboration Lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in response to a quality initiative sponsored by the Wikimedia Foundation. The project, discussed at Wikimania 2009, is one of a number of quality/rating tools for Wikipedia content that the Wikimedia Foundation is considering. WikTrust can be used by everybody in English and German via the Wiki-Watch pagedetails for Wikipedia articles, in several languages via a Firefox plugin or it can be installed in every MediaWiki.
