A total of 5 people were killed; four female students and a teacher, and 10 were injured; nine students and one teacher. The perpetrators were two students, 13-year-old Mitchell Johnson, and 11-year-old Andrew Golden, who were shooting in an ambush style from the woods in camouflaged clothes.

Vid ankomsten till skolan satte Andrew igång brandlarmet. När lärare och elever kom utspringande öppnade de båda pojkarna eld. 13 elever och 2 lärare blev träffade, 5 av dem dog. Efter dådet sprang pojkarna tillbaka till bilen och flydde, men stoppades av polisen. Mitchell Johnson blev frisläppt 11 augusti 2005, hans 21-årsdag. Andrew Golden släpptes fri den 25 maj 2007.
