Wenzhou or Oujiang is the speech of Wenzhou, the southern prefecture of Zhejiang Province, China. It is the most divergent division of Wu Chinese, and is sometimes considered a separate language. It has noticeable elements of Min, which borders it to the south. The term Oujiang is sometimes used to disambiguate this broad sense of the term, as opposed to Wenzhou or Wenzhounese as the dialect of Wenzhou proper.

It has noticeable elements of Min, which borders it to the south. The term Oujiang is sometimes used to disambiguate this broad sense of the term, as opposed to Wenzhou or Wenzhounese as the dialect of Wenzhou proper. Wenzhou is not mutually intelligible with other varieties of Wu neighboring it to the north and west, let alone with Min Dong to the south or with the official language of China, Mandarin. Due to its long history and the geographical features of the region on which it is located, Wenzhou Chinese is so eccentric in its phonology that it has the reputation of being the "least comprehensible dialect" for an average Mandarin speaker. It preserves some vocabulary from classical Chinese lost elsewhere, and has noticeable grammatical differences from Mandarin.

Wenzhouhua verschilt veel van het Standaardmandarijn en is zeer moeilijk te leren. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog gebruikten Chinese legers vaak Wenzhounezen om telefoongesprekken te maken, de Japanners verstonden het Wenzhouhua helemaal niet en wisten dus ook niet wat de Chinezen van plan waren. Daarom zeggen Chinezen vaak: "天不怕，地不怕，就怕温州人说温州话" / "Wij zijn niet bang voor de hemel en aarde maar wel voor Wenzhounezen die Wenzhouhua zitten te praten". Deze zin wordt door de Chinezen als humoristisch en niet als racistisch beschouwd. Ondanks dat het een Wu-taal is, kunnen mensen die een noordelijke Wu-dialect spreken geen woord van het Wenzhouhua verstaan. Het dialect heeft vaak een wenyanwenzinsopbouw.   • Вэньчжоуский диалект — южный субидиом диалектной группы у китайского языка. На нём говорят в городе Вэньчжоу, расположенном в южной части провинции Чжэцзян на юго-востоке Китая. По своей фонетике, лексике и грамматике диалект значительно отличается от официального китайского языка путунхуа и непонятен для других китайцев. При этом и внутри самого диалекта довольно сильны фонетические различия между наречиями отдельных уездов и городов, выделяются жуйаньский говор, юэцинский говор и др. Зачастую под вэньчжоуским диалектом в узком смысле понимается наречие, на котором говорят жители городской зоны собственно Вэньчжоу, не включая другие города и уезды, входящие в его состав. Вэньчжоуский диалект в широком смысле насчитывает около 5 млн. носителей. В силу своей сложности вэньчжоуский диалект считается в Китае одним из самых трудных для изучения.
