In March 2009, WABC began carrying the ABC Radio Real Country network on its HD2 sub-channel as "WABC Country". Since 1982 WABC has programmed a talk radio format, and has been one of the most successful talk stations locally and in the United States. Many of NewsTalkRadio 77's hosts have now moved on to national syndication. The station also carries reports from ABC News. Before 1982, WABC broadcast a Top 40 music format, was the dominant music station in the New York City area, and served as a template for many other Top 40 stations in different cities. NewsTalkRadio 77 is also known as The Station of the Nation, Breaking News & Stimulating Talk, and New York's 50,000 watt Beacon of Freedom.
