The Volvo PV51 was a car manufactured by Volvo in 1936. It was replaced by the PV52 in 1937 and by the mildly restyled PV54 in 1938. Also introduced in 1938 were the PV55, PV56 and PV57 which were more luxurious or otherwise modified versions of the same model. Although Sweden was a neutral state in the early 1940s, it was naturally much affected by the social and economic disruption that accompanied the war.

The PV54 and its siblings remained in production until 1945: motor fuel became hard to obtain and many of these Volvos were converted to run on non-petroleum gas, sometimes carried on a small trailer towed behind the car.

Till skillnad från den billigare PV51 fick man här lyxartiklar som dubbla solskydd, dubbla vindrutetorkare, klocka, värmeanläggning, läslampa bak och armstöd på alla fyra dörrar. I mars 1938 introducerades PV51 resp. 52 Special. Här hade man flyttat in reservhjulet från bagagerumsluckan till bagagerummet. Bagageluckan var försedd med en utbyggnad, så att utrymmet inte skulle minska.
