The Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet is the cabriolet version of the Volkswagen Golf hatchback. Initially based on the Volkswagen Golf Mk1, and the later Volkswagen Golf Mk3, it was produced by Karmann at Osnabrück for Volkswagen Passenger Cars. There was no Golf Cabriolet produced from the Volkswagen Golf Mk2. In late 1999, a revised Golf Cabriolet was released, with a front and rear facelift, and instrument cluster based on the Volkswagen Golf Mk3.

- Das Golf Cabrio ist ein Fahrzeugmodell der Marke Volkswagen. Es wurde ab 1979 auf der technischen Basis des Golf I bzw. des Golf III gebaut. Vom Golf I Cabrio wurden 389.000 Wagen bis 1993 hergestellt; von 1993 bis 1998 wurde das Nachfolgemodell auf Basis des Golf III 171.000 mal produziert. Ab 1998 gab es eine Facelift-Version des Golf III Cabrio, welche inoffiziell "Golf IV Cabrio" (1998-2002) genannt wurde. Alle Golf Cabrio Generationen stellte die Firma Karmann in Osnabrück her, die auch an der Entwicklung des offenen Golfs beteiligt war und noch bis Januar 1980 das Vorgängermodell Käfer Cabrio produzierte. Einzelne Fahrzeuge der Baureihen Golf III und Golf IV Cabrio produzierte auch Volkswagen de Mexico in ihrem Werk Puebla. Das Golf Cabrio war von 1979 bis zu seiner Produktionseinstellung 2002 stets eines der beliebtesten offenen Fahrzeuge auf dem deutschen und österreichischen Markt. Einen direkten Nachfolger des Golf Cabrio gibt es bis jetzt nicht. Als indirekte Nachfolger können das New Beetle Cabrio ab 2003 und der VW Eos ab 2006 bezeichnet werden. In Presseberichten ist mittlerweile davon zu lesen, dass ab Ende 2008 ein neues Golf Cabriolet auf Basis des Golf VI entstehen wird. Ob das Fahrzeug wie bisher bei Karmann hergestellt wird ist bisher noch nicht endgültig geklärt (Stand 3. Oktober 2007).
