- Vocal trance is a subgenre of trance music developed in Germany. It contains vocals, highly melodic sessions, intro/outros which are similar to those of hard trance or progressive trance and tracks of usually about 6 to 8 minutes long. The sub-genre goes back to the early 1990s, when trance was still developing, and vocals have gone onto become a staple of trance. Although many early trance records used vocal samples mixed in with the beats (including Dance 2 Trance's "We Came in Peace," the first song to be referred to as "trance"), the earliest examples of the style appeared in 1992/93. Another defining track was Jam & Spoon's "Right in the Night", which was released in 1993. A typical track consists of three elements. At the beginning of the track there is an intro of progressive beats, which lasts about 1-3 minutes. The melodic part (2-5min) starts incrementally, combining vocals, usually female, and melodic sound (for the most part high pitched and fast) with the bass pattern to give a great melody cycle. Finally when the outro is approaching, the melody fades out and we get the same rhythm as the intro, usually with some minor changes. Although later tracks have become much less formulaic. Vocal trance producers frequently make use of session musicians, particularly females, for vocals on their tracks. Session vocalists have been featured on tracks that span different genres and sub genres, while some vocalists have chosen to work only within the electronic club and dance music genres. Vocal trance was a popular listening in Europe, notably Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium and Great Britain. The earlier productions was closely related to uplifting trance, Uplifting house, Progressive trance and Progressive house. The later productions (2004 and so on) are far more commercial and have a Pop structure. Notable exceptions are the productions of Oceanlab/ Above & Beyond from Britain and Alex M.O.R.P.H. Vocal trance is part of Eurodance, as the term used by the Europeans. For the American fans, the term Eurodance is more associated with eurohouse and other 90s commercial dance music styles. Viacom UK tried in 2002 the term Euro-trance, for various non UK trance music imports. A great deal of them, were (Commercial) vocal trance hits from Belgium (Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, Sylver, Milk Inc) and Germany. Many UK fans separates those vocal trance hits and call them Euro-trance.

Dans quelques chansons, il y a des hommes qui chantent, mais ils sont souvent contraints de simplement parler et répondre aux femmes. Il n'est pas rare d'entendre des chanteurs se répéter plusieurs fois, pour respecter l'idée de la "boucle," présente dans plusieurs musiques de type techno. La trance vocal est populaire en Europe, surtout en Allemagne, en Suède et en Grande-Bretagne. Le terme trance vocale est en lien avec la trance progressive, à l'inverse de l'Eurodance et son sous-genre, l'Euro-Trance.

De liedjes duren gemiddeld tussen de 6 en 8 minuten en worden gekenmerkt door hun hardtrance in/outro. Vocal trance is ontstaan in de vroege jaren 90. In deze periode was trance nog vrij onbekend en volop aan het evolueren. De eerste trance records gebruikten meestal kleine stukjes ingesproken tekst in hun tracks, maar de eerste echte vocal trance is pas ontstaan in 1992/93 zoals bv. Dance 2 Trance's "Power Of American Natives" die in 1992 uitgebracht was. Een vocal-trancetrack heeft 3 grote opbouwblokken. Het eerste grote blok houdt de intro in. Deze bestaat uit progressieve beats die ongeveer 1-3 minuten duren. Het tweede blok bestaat uit het melodieëngedeelte (2-5 min. ), dat opbouwend begint met een combinatie van zang (meestal vrouwelijke), melodische motieven, en een baspatroon dat de melodische cyclus aangeeft. Uiteindelijk begint bij het derde blok de outro, vallen de melodische motieven weg en spelen de progressieve beats van de intro met hier en daar een kleine verandering. Het belangrijkste aspect bij vocal trance is natuurlijk de stem zelf. Dit is meestal een hoge vrouwenstem en dit heeft een 'chillend' effect. Soms wordt een mannenstem gebruikt, maar dit gebeurt vooral bij korte ingesproken zinnen of om op de vrouwenstem te antwoorden. Het is niet ongebruikelijk dat de zangtekst vaak wordt herhaald. Dit heeft tot doel het trance-effect op te wekken.

O subgenéro foi criado na década de 1990 quando o próprio género Trance se estava a desenvolver e os vocais a tornarem-se parte do mesmo. Uma faixa tipíca de Vocal Trance começa com batidas progressivas, segunindo-se de partes melodicas com vocais que na sua maioria são femininos e quando se aproxima o outro, as melodias vocais vão progressivamente desaparecendo e obtemos algo parecido com o Intro, registando apenas algumas diferenças. Para além desta constituição, mais tarde vários artistas optaram por não seguir esta ordem na construção da sua música. O Vocal Trance utiliza a participação vocal de artistas independentes que já têm o seu próprio género defenido, fazendo os "feautures" ou já tem próprios artistas exclusivos e defenidos para o género. O Vocal Trance tornou-se marioritariamente popular na Europa, principalmente nos maiores países produtores do mesmo: Bélgica, Países Baixos, Suécia, Alemanha e Reino Unido. As primeiras produções de Vocal Trance, assemelhavam-se mais ao Uplifting Trance, Progressive Trance e Progressive House, enquanto que as mais modernas apresentam caracteristicas mais comerciais e mais parecidas com o Pop. A adição de vocais às musicas não so permitiu tornar as musicas cantáveis, mas só como em nível de libertação de espírito, tornou as canções com um significado mais profundo,levando o ouvinte numa verdadeira viagem quando ouve as músicas. Vocal Trance na Europa Durante o período de 1997-2003 o género tornou-se popular por toda a Europa e ganhou bastante airplay em vários canais musicais de toda a Europa. Após 2004, o surgimento do Electro e a ascensão do House fizeram com que o género viesse a perder a sua popularidade, airplay nas rádios e televisões e com que alguns artistas mudassem o seu estilo para uma onda mais Techno e Electro gerando fortes críticas pelos fãs do genéro. Vocal Trance Nos E.U. A Os únicos artistas notáveis de Vocal Trance a obter algum sucesso na Billboard Hot 100 foram Cascada, Lasgo e Ian Van Dahl, tendo a primeira um Top 10, os Segundos um Top 30 e os terceiros um top 90. De resto o sucesso apenas se contou na Billboard Hot Dance (airplay e vendas) e Billboard Eletronic Albums e nos tops de Pop. Aristas que antigiram boas posições na Billboard Hot Dance : Kate Ryan, Milk Inc. , Fragma, Jessy e ATB. Vocal Trance em Portugal Em Portugal o Vocal Trance esteve nos respectivos anos que esteve na Europa. Os anos do seu auge foram entre mais ao menos 1999 e 2003. Os artistas a obter maior sucesso no país foram Kate Ryan com Désenchanteé, Libertine e Only If I. Milk Inc. com Walk On Water, Ian Van Dahl com Castles In The Sky, Will I?,Reason e Try. Lasgo também obtiveram bastante airplay com Something e Pray, igualmente como ATB E ATC principalmente no ano 2000 e 2001.
