Cada 6 semanas, durante 8 meses Sony BMG publicó veinte de los más importantes éxitos de Michael Jackson en forma de disco sencillo. Cada sencillo se publicó como DualDisc permitiendo no solo coleccionar su mejores temas sino también sus correspondientes videos musicales. Es decir, cada disco está compuesto por un CD en una cara y un DVD por la otra. Michael Jackson trabajó en el proyecto Visionary como productor ejecutivo. El primer CD en ser publicado como parte de la colección Visionary fue Thriller. Elle ne propose pas de chansons inédites et va de Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough (1979) à Blood on the Dance Floor (1997). Chaque semaine et pendant une durée de quatre mois, Sony BMG a sorti vingt singles emblématiques de Michael Jackson en format DualDisc. Sur la face CD figurent, sauf exception, deux versions de la chanson-titre. La face DVD contient quant à elle le vidéoclip de la chanson-titre et les deux chansons de la face CD. Michael Jackson a travaillé sur le projet Visionary en tant que producteur exécutif, donnant son accord sur les singles choisis ainsi que sur le design du coffret. Il devient avec ce coffret le premier artiste occidental à sortir du contenu en format DualDisc. Son illustration est faite d'une photomosaïque utilisant des images des clips de l'artiste qui forment un portrait de profil de celui-ci. When originally released, only the empty box and the "Thriller" single were released. Then a different single was released every week starting with "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and ending with "Blood On The Dance Floor". After 19 weeks, buyers would have the entire set. The limited edition cover artwork for the box set is a photomosaic using images from Jackson's career. Each single contains the title song, either a remix or b-side on the CD side, and its originally released music video on the DVD side. Audio for the video, and for the enhanced resolution music on the DVD side of the DualDisc, is PCM at 48 kHz. The Grammy and MTV Award-winning video for Scream was not part of the set. (en)

I 20 singoli vennero scelti tra le varie canzoni del cantante arrivate alla numero 1 nelle classifiche mondiali che fossero state accompagnate da un videoclip, rispettivamente dall'uscita del disco Off The Wall del 1979 fino a Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix del 1997.
