Vinicio Capossela is a German-born Italian singer-songwriter. His style is strongly influenced by US singer and songwriter Tom Waits (Capossela repeatedly recorded his songs with the help of Waits' guitarist, Marc Ribot), though it also draws from the traditions of Italian folk music (especially those of Irpinia, the part of Campania where his family moved from in the 1950s).

Capossela was born in Hannover, but moved very early to Emilia Romagna. He has lived in Milan since 1987.

Torna poco dopo in Italia con la famiglia. Cresce artisticamente nei circuiti underground dell'Emilia-Romagna, fino ad essere notato e lanciato da uno degli esponenti contemporanei della musica d'autore, Francesco Guccini. Vive da quasi 20 anni a Milano. Il nuovo millennio lo avvicina molto alla sua terra d'origine, l'Irpinia, e questo amore reciproco con la gente del luogo si concretizza con la cittadinanza onoraria concessagli dal comune di Calitri per onorare la sua grande genialità e creatività. Debitore nella sua visionarietà poetica verso gran parte della letteratura del Novecento, Capossela ha scritto anche un libro, Non si muore tutte le mattine, uscito nel marzo 2004.
