Vincennes is a city in and the county seat of Knox County, Indiana, United States. It is located on the Wabash River in the southwestern part of the state. Founded in 1732, Vincennes is the oldest continually inhabited European settlement in Indiana and one of the oldest settlements west of the Appalachians. According to the 2010 census, its population was 18,423, a decrease of 1.5% from 18,701 in 2000.

Die Siedlung wurde durch George Rogers Clark am 23. Februar zurückgewonnen. Die Ereignisse dieser Zeit werden in dem 1901 erschienenen Roman Alice of Old Vincennes von Maurice Thompson beschrieben. Um 1800 wurde es Hauptstadt des neu gegründeten Indiana-Territoriums und Sitz des Gouverneurs William Henry Harrison, dem späteren neunten Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten, der hier in dem Anwesen Grouseland residierte. In diesem Zeitraum war Vincennes Hauptstadt des Indiana-Territoriums. Bereits 1801 wurde die Jefferson Academy gegründet, aus der später die Vincennes University wurde, eine der ältesten Hochschuleinrichtungen der USA.
