Balkanska is most famous for Izlel je Delyo hajdutin, which she recorded in 1968 accompanied by the bagpipe players Lazar Kanevski and Stephan Zahmanov. Balkanska has been working with the Rodopa State Ensemble for Folk Songs and Dances from Smolyan, of which she is a soloist, since 1960. Her album "Glas ot vechnostta" ("Voice from the Eternity"), released in 2004, is a compilation of her best known songs, including A bre yunache ludo i mlado, Goro le goro zelena, Maychinko stara maychinko. In 2002, Balkanska was awarded the Stara Planina Orden (the highest Bulgarian award). She was honoured with her own star plate on the Bulgarian Walk of Fame in Sofia in December 2005.

Dieses Lied wurde 1977 mit weiteren 26 Musikstücken auf eine Schallplatte aufgenommen, die auf den interstellaren Raumsonden Voyager 1 und Voyager 2 ins Weltall geschickt wurde. Balkanska arbeitet mit dem Rhodopa-Staatsensemble für Folklore-Lieder und -Tänze aus Smoljan, mit dem sie seit 1960 als Solistin auftritt. Ihr Album "Glas ot vetschnostta" (bulg. Глас от вечността/"Stimme aus der Ewigkeit"), brachte sie 2004 heraus. Es ist eine Zusammenstellung ihrer Best of-Lieder, unter anderem A bre junache ludo i mlado, Goro le goro zelena und Majchinko stara majchinko. 2002 wurde die Sängerin mit dem bulgarischen Staatsorden Stara Planina für ihre Verdienste um die bulgarische Musik geehrt .
