Harvey Holmes was the 7th head coach of the Utah Utes football team, but he was the first paid head coach. The Utes represent the University of Utah for intercollegiate football games. Holmes compiled a record of 16–9–1 while at Utah from 1900 to 1903 before leaving to coach at USC. However, three of the games played are not included in official NCAA records; in such games, Holmes has a record of 13–9–1 (.587). Holmes is also remembered for writing the lyrics to the Utah fight song Utah Man.
