  • Universal Constructors is a London-based electronica band consisting Tom Walker, Matt Critchlow, and Matt Hodgson. Their music largely falls into dub, ambient and trip-hop classifications. The first notable recognition came in 1999 when their composition "Emphasis" won the first "getoutthere. bt. com" main download charts, and "Warm and wet" won the Funk chart in the same month. Tom subsequently featured in a UK-wide magazine marketing campaign in the promoting the getoutthere platform for new talent. Universal Constructors have remixed songs for Keane, namely "Rubbernecking" from the Call Me What You Like EP, and "Strange Dreams" by Ashley Slater, with mixes appearing on Ashley Slater's Big Lounge: After Hours compilation CD. The band's name is derived from Stephen Baxter's The Time Ships - a sequel to HG Wells' the Time Machine, in which an eponymous self-replicating entity (or entities) becomes involved in time travel.
