It was the first to be held after the formation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The First Parliament of the United Kingdom was composed of members of the former Parliaments of the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland. The Parliament of Great Britain held its last general election in 1796. The final election for the Parliament of Ireland was held in 1797.
