There are also trees to block Tux's path and flags for sake of marking out the course.

La combinazione delle due azioni fa effettuare al pinguino un salto molto più alto. Come per molti altri giochi open-source, la rigiocabilità di Tux Racer è consentita dalla facilità con cui il gioco può essere modificato. Si possono creare nuove mappe disegnando tre immagini raster, rispettivamente per altezza, superficie e posizionamento degli oggetti. Altre modifiche permettono ai pinguini di superare mach uno. Roxor Games ha rilasciato una versione arcade del gioco; essa utilizza solo i controlli destra o sinistra.

Коли Тукс ковзає по льоду, його швидкість збільшується, ковзання по снігу дає більше маневреності, а скельні ділянки сповільнюють ковзання. Крім того, на шляху Тукса зустрічаються дерева, що заважають руху, і прапорці - позначають курс.
