Tulsidas (also spelt Tulasidas, Tulsīdās or Gosvāmī Tulasīdāsa), (1497/1532–1623) was a Hindu poet-saint and philosopher, renowned for his devotion for the god Rama. A composer of several popular works, he is best known for being the author of the epic Ramcharitmanas, a retelling of the Sanskrit Ramayana in the vernacular Awadhi, which is a popular Hindu scripture often referred to as the Bible of North India.
