Tru Loved is an independent feature film. The title character, Tru (Najarra Townsend), moves with her two lesbian mothers to a conservative suburb in southern California from San Francisco. The film premiered at the Sedona Film Festival on February 28, 2008 and at the Frameline Film Festival on June 21, 2008. The film went into limited national release on October 17, 2008. The film won fourteen awards at six film festivals. Film critic Roger Ebert caused a controversy when his published review of the film revealed that he stopped watching after only 8 minutes. He has since watched and reviewed the entire film and promised to never review a film he has not seen "in its entirety. Never. Ever."
