The Valle Trompia is a valley (50 km long) that runs from North to South, from the Tre Valli crystalline massive to the plain of Brescia. It shows no sign of glacial geomorphologic activity and includes the Mella river. The name originates from the ancient-Rhaeto people, the Trumpilini, the conquest of which by part of the Romans was more difficult than that of Cenomani of Brixia.

Trumpilini people was listed as first in the Trophy of Augustus, a Roman monument erected between 25 -14 BC near La Turbie in honor of Emperor Augustus, who subdued the Alpine tribes. The presence in the high part of the valley of mineral veins promoted since the antiquity an important mining activity. This encouraged the development of a remarkable iron manufacturing even for the production of weapons. For this reason, under the Venetian domination, the valley was given a special autonomy and a lighter tax regime.

Ha un andamento essenzialmente da nord a sud, dal massiccio cristallino delle Tre Valli allo sbocco nella Pianura padana a Brescia. Prende il nome dall'antico popolo dei Triumplini. La presenza nell'Alta Valle di vene minerali promosse fin dall'antichità un'attività estrattiva. Ciò favorì il precoce sviluppo di una tradizione di lavorazione del ferro anche per la produzione di armi. Per tale ragione sotto il dominio veneziano la valle godeva di una speciale autonomia e di alcune esenzioni fiscali. Ciò non valeva per Lumezzane che era infeudata agli Avogadro. Una cultura di ferro. In Val Trompia sono presenti da secoli segni dell'estrazione del ferro e della lavorazione di esso per costruire principalmente armi. Durante l'impero romano le armi provenienti dalla valle erano in assoluto le migliori. La cultura delle armi nei secoli si è sviluppata, passando dalle daghe romane ai fucili viene fondata nel 1500 la Beretta, nota marca di armi ancora oggi esistente e famosa in tutto il mondo per la loro qualità eccezionale. Negli anni '70-'80 la Val Trompia era nota anche come la Valle d'Oro per le fiorenti industrie che ospitava che offrivano lavoro e guadagno a tutti i cittadini.
  • Het Val Trompia is een dal in de Noord-Italiaanse regio Lombardije. Het dal, dat is uitgesleten door de rivier de Mella, loopt van de stad Brescia in het zuiden tot de Monte Colombine (2215 m) in het noorden. De totale lengte van het hoofddal bedraagt ongeveer 50 kilometer. Het zuiden van het dal is dichtbevolkt en tserk geïndustrialiseerd. In Gardone Trompia is een van de oudste wapenfabrieken ter wereld gevestigd. De fabriek Pietro Beretta bestaat sinds 1526 en is de gehele tijd in de handen van dezelfde familie geweest. Ten noorden van Gardone wordt het dal nauwer en natuurlijker. De weg door de vallei vanuit Brescia loopt door tot de Manivapas (1646 m) waar de weg splitst. De weg in westelijke richting gaat naar de Croce Dominiipas die naar het Val Camonica leidt. In oostelijke richting gaat een smalle steenslagweg naar het Idromeer en het Valle Sabbia. 's Winters wordt er op de Manivapas op bescheiden schaal geskied.
