  • Trickbaby is a London based band described as an East/West soundclash, influenced by modern dance music and Indian Bollywood classics. Based around the song writing partnership of Saira Hussain and Steve Ager, and the rhythms of Vikaash Sankadecha. Lead singer Saira cites influences from modern Western music through to Bollywood movie classics. It is this unique blend of inspiration that provide the basis of the unique Trickbaby sound. 'Trickbaby's debut single, 'Indi-Yarn' received massive mainstream media attention. It reached *46 in the British national chart, and was the first Hindi language single to be playlisted at Radio One. Following massive media support for Neelaa after its inclusion on the Asian Flavas album, particularly at Radio One, Trickbaby released their debut album ‘Hanging Around’ on their own Chachaman label. 5 stars in OK, Mojo, Eastern Eye and great reviews in The Times, Observer and in all the main Asian press resulted in Trickbaby signing to EMI’s Far East head office in Hong Kong. Immediately MTV in the SE Asia region made Trickbaby artist of the month on their Alert programme and playlisted the band’s self produced ‘Slipping Through Your Fingers’ video (which features members of the GB synchronised swimming team). Three Trickbaby songs were used in the cult Indian movie Hyderabad Blues 2, which proved to be the catalyst for a love affair between Trickbaby and Hindi cinema. Virgin UK released a compilation album ‘Asian Beat Bazaar’ devised and compiled by Trickbaby and the band toured India, including a performance in front of a billion viewers at MTV’s prestigious Style Awards. '2006 proved to a big year for Trickbaby as Rohan Sippy asked the band for songs for his movie Bluffmaster, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, which has gone on to become one of the biggest modern Indian movies of recent times. Sabse Bada Rupaiya/Bluffmaster – a new Trickbaby track based around the original 1970’s Mehmood song became the title track and a huge hit in the India diaspora. Neelaa, Indi Yarn and a reworked Hindi version of Nine Parts Of Desire also all had key roles in the film and featured on a soundtrack album that has now sold over 2 million copies worldwide. 'Trickbaby’s love affair with Bollywood continued as they wrote the title track to Ashok Thakeria’s movie ‘Pyare Mohan’, and they remixed two tracks for Victoria 203. The band spent 2007 finishing their long awaited and second album entitled ‘Chor Bazaar’ named after a market in Mumbai famous for selling stolen goods. Featuring 11 songs and guest appearances by Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz- (who also stars in Madonna’s directorial debut and famously performed with her at Live Earth), Sergey Ryabtzev (Violin), and Yuri Lemeshev (Accordion), as well as Shakespeare’s Sister Marcella Detroit (harmonica). 'To accompany Chor Bazaar the band made two fantastic videos. To Fighter, an extraordinary animation, directed by Mox, well known for his work with U2, The Chemical Brothers, Coldcut and Ninja tunes, and to a new version of Nine Parts (Parde Ke Peeche produced by Ramesh Sippy directed by Rohan Sippy and starring Bollywood superstars Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra. Not many bands can boast of both Abhishek Bachchan and Johnny Depp as fans! 'Trickbaby’s music is now in over 3 million homes worldwide via their various movie soundtracks, compilations and of course their own ‘Hanging Around’ album. The extraordinary story and cast that make up Chor Bazaar should ensure 2009 will continue Trickbaby’s extraordinary journey.
