- Translation studies is an interdiscipline containing elements of social science and the humanities, dealing with the systematic study of the theory, the description and the application of translation, interpreting or both these activities. Translation studies can be normative (prescribing rules for the application of these activities) or descriptive. As an interdisciplinary discipline, translation studies borrows much from the different fields of study that support translation. These include comparative literature, computer science, history, linguistics, philology, philosophy, semiotics, terminology, and so forth. Note that occasionally in English, writers will use the term translatology to refer to translation studies. However, the term Translation Studies has become implanted in English, whereas in French, it is la traductologie that is used.
- Translatologie je interdisciplinární vědní obor zabývající se převodem textů z jednoho jazyka do jiného, případně z jednoho semiotického systému do jiného, ať už překladatelem lidským nebo překladačem strojovým, písemně nebo ústně. Zajímá se o otázky přesnosti (věrnosti) překladu, převodu textů z jedné kulturní oblasti nebo dějinné doby do jiné, o otázku možnosti překladu (přeložitelnosti) apod. V zásadě lze translatologii dělit na deskriptivní a aplikovanou. Do deskriptivní odnože spadá například kritika překladu či dějiny překladu. Aplikovaná translatologie se zabývá překladatelskou a tlumočnickou praxí.
- La traductologie, en tant que science, étudie le processus cognitif inhérent à toute reproduction orale, écrite ou gestuelle, vers un langage, de l'expression d'une idée provenant d'une autre langage (signes vocaux, graphiques ou gestuels). La notion de « traductologie » a été employée pour la première fois par Jean-René Ladmiral, traductologue contemporain français en 1972, et simultanément par le traductologue canadien Brian Harris, qui a bientôt après publié une communication dont le titre comportait ce terme. En un sens élargi, toute pratique réflexive sur la traduction relève de la traductologie. Il s'agit aussi d'un exercice universitaire inscrit dans les programmes des facultés de langues vivantes, mais généralement à partir de la troisième année d'études, du moins en France, et dans les études supérieures menant au doctorat en plusieurs pays.
- 翻訳研究（ほんやくけんきゅう、Translation Studies）は、翻訳の理論と実践に関する科学的・多面的な研究を扱う人文科学の一分野である。翻訳学ともいう。なお英語の Translation Studies は通訳研究 (Interpretation Studies) を包括して指す場合もある。 翻訳研究は学問分野としての歴史が浅いために翻訳研究プロパーの研究は多くなく、比較文学研究やコンピュータ科学、歴史学、言語学や文献学、哲学、記号学、コミュニケーション学、認知科学など様々の分野を研究成果を基盤とした学際的分野である。
- Traduktologia, translatoryka lub przekładoznawstwo (ang. Translation Studies) - dział językoznawstwa zajmujący się problemami tłumaczenia. Na temat tłumaczenia wypowiadali się od wieków poeci, pisarze i uczeni wielu specjalności. Różnież nowożytne studia nad przekładem mają charakter interdyscyplinarny i oprócz językoznawstwa korzystają z dorobku takich dziedzin jak filologia, kulturoznawstwo, literaturoznawstwo, komparatystyka, filozofia, semiotyka, informatyka i wiele innych (np. w przypadku refleksji nad tłumaczeniem Biblii - biblistyka). Charakterystyczną cechą tej dziedziny jest wielość różnych ujęć tematu, a co za tym idzie wiele konkurujących ze sobą i uzupełniających się teorii tłumaczenia. Najważniejsze pytania poruszane przy refleksji nad tłumaczeniem to: Czym jest tłumaczenie (sztuką, nauką, rzemiosłem)? Gdzie leży granica między tłumaczeniem a adaptacją? Jakie są główne rodzaje tłumaczenia? Jak dokładnie przebiega proces tłumaczenia? Jaką rolę w procesie przekładu odgrywa osoba tłumacza? Jakie są kryteria oceny jakości tłumaczenia? W jaki sposób najlepiej szkolić przyszłych tłumaczy? Czy możliwe jest tłumaczenie maszynowe? Jaka jest rola tłumaczenia w wymianie międzykulturowej i rozprzestrzenianiu się idei? Czy możliwe jest tłumaczenie bez manipulacji informacją? Według Franciszka Gruczy możemy mówić o translatoryce czystej, która dostarcza informacji deskryptywno-eksplikatywnych, oraz o translatoryce stosowanej, która zbiera informacje aplikatywne.
- 翻譯研究是人文學的一支，主要目的在對於翻譯的理論與實踐進行系統性與跨學科的研究，研究對象也包括一般稱為口譯的領域。 這門學科在二十世紀後半才正式出現，歷史甚短，基礎建立在許許多多其他學科上，主要包括比較文學、電腦科學、歷史學、語言學、文字學、哲學、符號學、傳播學以及認知科學等等，是一個科際整合性的學科。
