Trujillo grew up on a farm with 100 acres (0.40 km) of land and started skating at the age of 7. A neighbor had ramps in his barn and often invited Tony to skate there. Trujillo started competing in skate contests when he was 12 in the California Amateur Skateboard League, winning one at the age of 12 and placing in numerous others.
