Tony Connor (born John Anthony Connor, Manchester, U.K. 1930) is a British poet and playwright. After leaving school at fourteen, Connor served in the Royal Army as a tank gunner, and later worked as a textile designer and in radio and television in Manchester in the 1960s. From 1971 until he retired in 1999 Connor was professor of English at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He lives in Middletown and London. He was a close friend of the English writer J.G.

Connor has published nine volumes of poetry. His work anthologized in British Poetry since 1945. Connor was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1974.
