The majority of his 113 appearances was as a relief pitcher, but he did start 9 games. Career highlights include setting an Indians rookie record with 58 relief appearances in 1984 and a 7-hit complete game win over All-Star Dave Stieb and the Toronto Blue Jays (August 19, 1985). Waddell had shoulder surgery in September 1985 and was unsuccessful in a brief 1987 comeback bid. He finished his career with a total of 15 wins, 11 losses, 15 saves, 56 games finished, and an ERA of 4.30.
