Blase Thomas Golisano (born 1942) is an American billionaire businessman and philanthropist. He is the founder of Paychex, the second-largest payroll processor in the United States and co-owner (along with real estate developer Larry Quinn) of the Buffalo Sabres hockey team and of the Buffalo Bandits lacrosse team. He is a founding member of the Independence Party of New York. He ran for governor of New York in 1994, 1998 and 2002 as the candidate of the Independence Party.

He is a founding member of the Independence Party of New York. He ran for governor of New York in 1994, 1998 and 2002 as the candidate of the Independence Party. Although he lost each time, he increased his percentage of the vote. He spent a combined $93 million on the three campaigns. In 2002, Golisano challenged New York Governor George Pataki as the candidate of the Independence Party. By receiving more than 50,000 votes each time, Golisano brought the Independence Party an automatic ballot line for the succeeding four years. Golisano has an associate's degree from Alfred State College. There was speculation that he would run for governor on the Republican ticket, but he announced on May 15, 2009 that he was moving to Florida to escape New York state taxes. He said the move would save him $13,800 per day in income taxes, plus unspecified amounts from lower sales taxes, gasoline taxes, utility taxes, and property taxes. He stated that by moving to Florida, we would be able to spend the money to fund "worthy causes," instead of spending it to fund "Albany's bloated bureaucracy, corrupt politicians or regular handouts to the special interests."
