Timothy Bloodworth was an American teacher and statesman from North Carolina. He was born in North Carolina in 1736 and spent most of his life before the American Revolutionary War as a teacher. In 1776, he began making arms including muskets and bayonets for the Continental Army. In 1778 and 1779, he served as a member of the North Carolina state legislature. Following this, he held a number of political posts sequentially until serving as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1786.

He was elected to the First United States Congress as a member of the House of Representatives, serving from 1790 to 1791 before returning to the North Carolina state legislature. In 1794 Bloodworth was appointed to the United States Senate, where he served from 1795 to 1801. From then until his death in 1814, Bloodworth served as collector of customs in Wilmington, North Carolina. During the Second World War, liberty ship SS Timothy Bloodworth was named in his honor.

Von 1790 bis 1791 war er dann Abgeordneter im Repräsentantenhaus des ersten US-Kongresses, bevor er von 1793 bis 1794 wieder im Parlament seines Heimatstaates saß. Am 4. März 1795 zog Bloodworth dann für die Demokratisch-Republikanische Partei in den US-Senat ein. Er absolvierte dort eine komplette Legislaturperiode bis zum 3. März 1801. Danach wurde er Leiter der Zollbehörde von Wilmington, wo er im August 1814 auch verstarb. Während des zweiten Weltkrieges wurde der Liberty-Frachter SS Timothy Bloodworth nach ihm benannt.
