The Slits are a British punk rock band. The quartet was formed in 1976 by members of the bands The Flowers of Romance and The Castrators. The members were Ari Up (Arianna Forster) and Palmolive (Paloma Romero, who later left to join The Raincoats), with Viv Albertine and Tessa Pollitt replacing founding members, Kate Korus and Suzy Gutsy. Palmolive was replaced by the drummer Budgie (aka Pete Clarke), formerly of The Spitfire Boys and later to join Siouxsie & the Banshees.

Dennis Bovell produit leur premier album Cut (Island Records). Cet album est le fruit d'un mélange entre esprit punk et groove reggae, sa couverture est elle aussi notable, les membres du groupe y posent en amazones dénudées, couvertes de boue. Un nouvel album intitulé Trapped Animal est prévu pour octobre 2009.
