  • The Reasoning are a rock band from Cardiff, formed in August 2005 by Bass Guitarist Matthew Cohen. Along with Matthew, the band consisted of Dylan Thompson - vocals/guitar, Gareth Jones - vocals/keyboards, Lee Wright - guitars, Vinden Wylde - drums and the award winning singer Rachel Cohen (married to Matthew Cohen, her maiden name was Rachel Jones on vocals/percussion), who previously fronted Karnataka, and has won the title of Best Female Singer in the annual Classic Rock Society awards for an unprecedented four consecutive years. The Reasoning's debut album, Awakening, was released on 26 March 2007. It was mixed by Dave Meegan who has worked with, among others, Marillion and U2. Steve Rothery of Marillion makes a guest appearance with the guitar solo on "Within Cold Glass". Lead vocals are shared between the band's 3 vocalists, all of whom perform a section of the lead vocals on the album's title track. After the Awakening tour finished, Lee Wright left the band, to be replaced by Owain Roberts. Their first live performance with Owain was at the Cambridge Rock Festival in July 2008. The band recently recorded their second album Dark Angel which was released on the 6th October 2008. The band toured through October and November 2008 doing their own headline shows and supporting Fish. In March 2009 The Reasoning played at the Marillion convention (having previously supported Marillion at the Colston Hall in Bristol in 2007) at Port Zelande, Holland in front of an ecstatic 2500 capacity crowd. The new album really highlights the 3 voices of the band and also shows the darker, heavier and more technical side of The Reasoning. In July 2009, The Reasoning parted ways with Gareth Jones and Vinden Wylde. On the 9th August 2009, The Reasoning played their first show, with guest musicians, at the Fish convention. The four remaining members were joined on-stage by Maria Owen on vocals/mandolin/percussion, Scott Barnett on acoustic guitar, Jonathan Freeden on keyboards and Jake Bradford-Sharp on drums. This was initially billed as an acoustic show, but in the immortal words of Rachel - "Acoustic Show My Arse". The band went on to play a barn storming set with new workings of songs from both studio albums showcasing the step forward they had promised. On 10th August 2009 The Reasoning released a cover version of Duran Duran's The Chauffeur as an on-line digital download-only single. As of 14 August 2009, it had reached No.2 on the Amazon UK rock download chart and No.34 on the main Amazon UK download chart. On 31st August 2009, The Reasoning appointed new members Maria Owen on vocals/acoustic guitar with Jake Bradford-Sharp on drums, whom both had played with the band at the Fish convention earlier in the month. Then on 6th September, Tony Turrell keyboards/vocals, previously of Fish fame was added to the line-up, making them a seven-piece for the first time in the band's history. The band will debut this new line-up at The Globe in Cardiff on 21st November 2009 as part of their round up for the year and also as a special Christmas concert. The band are hard at to work on the upcoming third album which continues the theme of driving riffs, beautiful melodies and for the 1st time this set of songs will incorporate the use of 4 part vocal harmonies. The future for The Reasoning is exciting and 2010 promises to be a year where the band really make their mark. Watch this space.
Oktober 2008. Kurz darauf tourten The Reasoning durch England und waren u. a. Vorgruppe des Ex-Marillion-Sängers Fish.
