The Notwist are a German indie rock band. Formed in 1989, the band moved through several musical incarnations despite maintaining a relatively stable lineup. While their early records moved through heavy metal into dark indie rock, their recent efforts for which they've received the most attention have been very strongly influenced by the electronica scene, along with the other groups on the record label Morr Music.

Die Mitglieder von "The Notwist" sind oft auch noch in anderen Projekten vertreten oder veröffentlichen solo, unter anderem bei/mit Village of Savoonga, Tied & Tickled Trio, Lali Puna, Ms. John Soda, Potawatomi, Alles wie Groß, Ogonjok, Rayon, 3 Shades of Blues, Hometrainer, 13&God, Bolzplatz Heroes, Schweisser. Viele dieser Bands waren auf dem inzwischen eingestellten Musiklabel Hausmusik vertreten, das oft im Zusammenhang mit "The Notwist" erwähnt wird, auch wenn die Band selber nur einzelne Samplerbeiträge (darunter eine Koproduktion mit Calexico) auf diesem Label veröffentlicht hatte. Wie schon zu Anfangszeiten, als "The Notwist" als regional bekannte Schülerband agierte, nimmt die Gruppe noch heute im uphon-Studio in Wilzhofen bei Weilheim auf.
