Il film presenta anche il personaggio del Dottor Destino e il Gioielliere, vagamente ispirato all'Uomo Talpa. Basato sui fumetti Marvel Comics creati nel 1961 da Stan Lee e Jack Kirby, questo film è inedito in Italia. All'annuncio della cancellazione della distribuzione, si sparse la voce secondo cui il film era solo un ashcan copy, un artefatto realizzato esclusivamente per mantenere i diritti legali. Come ha in seguito confermato il regista, per conservare i diritti doveva essere prodotto qualcosa che somigliasse a un film; per farlo, lo studio ingannò tutti quanti, annunciando che il film sarebbe stato effettivamente distribuito.
