The Equals were a pop/reggae/rock group that formed in North London, England in 1965. They are remembered mostly for their million selling chart-topper, "Baby Come Back". Eddy Grant, then sporting dyed blonde hair, was in the group, and also in the original line-up were the twin brothers Derv and Lincoln Gordon, as well as John Hall and Pat Lloyd.

Die aus Jamaika stammenden Brüder Derv und Lincoln Gordon gründeten die Equals 1965 in London. Weitere Bandmitglieder waren Pat Lloyd und John Hall aus London sowie der später als Solist erfolgreiche Eddy Grant. Der Name der Band spielt darauf an, dass in ihr - in den 60er Jahren noch ungewöhnlich - schwarze und weiße Musiker zusammen spielten. 1966 erhielt die Band einen Plattenvertrag. Die erste Single im gleichen Jahr war I Won’t Be There, die vor allem in Holland und Deutschland erfolgreich war. Baby Come Back wurde der Superhit der Gruppe. Weitere Hits waren z. B. I Get So Exited, Laurel & Hardy, Green Light und Viva Bobby Joe. 1976 lösten sich die Equals auf. Der Revival-Boom Ende der 1980er brachte jedoch auch die Equals zurück auf die Bühne. Die neue Besetzung bestand neben den Urmitgliedern Derv Gordon (Gesang) und Pat Lloyd (Bass) aus Ronnie Telemaque (Schlagzeug) und David Martin (Gitarre).
