  • De Avonturen van Taran is een vijfdelige kinderboekenserie in het fantasygenre, in de jaren 60 geschreven door de Amerikaanse schrijver Lloyd Alexander. De serie gaat over het weesjongetje Taran die bij de druïde Dallben inwoont. Hoewel hij slechts een eenvoudige jongen is, droomt Taran er toch van om een groot ridder te zijn. In de vijf boeken wordt beschreven hoe Taran in een tijdsspanne van een aantal jaren de ontwikkeling doormaakt van een eenvoudige varkenshoeder tot een groot strijder, in de strijd tegen de Gehoornde Koning die het land Prydain probeert te overheersen. Taran krijgt hierbij hulp van verschillende personen, zoals de minstreel Fflewddur Fflam, prinses Eilonwy, en het mensachtige wezen Gurgi. De boekenserie viel meerdere malen in de prijzen. Het vijfde deel van de serie werd onderscheiden met de "Newbery Medal", de hoogste Amerikaanse onderscheiding voor een kinderboek, vergelijkbaar met de Gouden Griffel in Nederland. De boekenserie is geïnspireerd op de Welshe mythologie, en de Mabinogion in het bijzonder. De boekenserie bestaat uit de volgende delen: Het boek van drie De zwarte ketel Het kasteel van Llyr Tarans zwerftocht De hoge koning Het boek "The Foundling and Other Tales from Prydain", niet in het Nederlands vertaald, hoort ook tot de boekenserie en bevat een aantal losse verhalen over de inwoners van Prydain, die vóór het eerste deel spelen.
