The Chorus (Les choristes) is a 2004 French drama film directed by Christophe Barratier. Co-written by Barratier and Philippe Lopes-Curval, it is a remake of the 1945 film A Cage of Nightingales (La Cage aux Rossignols), which was adapted by Noël-Noël and René Wheeler from a story by Wheeler and Georges Chaperot. The film explores the pain of a child's separation from his parents and the transcendence of music as the greatest form of expression.

Als Drehbuchvorlage diente der Film La cage aux rossignols von 1945. Der Film wurde – mit wenigen Ausnahmen – durchgängig mit Laien besetzt. Darin spielt der Chorgesang eine wichtige Rolle. Die Musikaufnahmen sang der Kinderchor Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc (Die kleinen Sänger von Sankt Markus) aus Lyon ein, dem auch Jean-Baptiste Maunier angehörte, dessen Schauspiel- und Gesangskarriere mit diesem Film begann.

Il preside Rachin, adirato per il furto, sospende ingiustificatamente il coro. Clement trova l'appoggio inaspettato per far continuare il coro in clandestinità dal braccio destro del preside e da alcuni professori. Intanto i benefattori che sovvenzionano il collegio vengono a sapere del coro e decidono di andarlo a sentire; in questa occasione il preside si prende il merito di tutta l'attività per ricevere lui i riconoscimenti, ma questo non importa a Clement. Dopo la visita la clandestinità del coro finisce e con essa la latitanza di Modain che, accusato ingiustamente dal preside di aver rubato i soldi, lo aggredisce e viene fatto riportare nella struttura psichiatrica dove era detenuto dain, uscito dopo il ritrovo dei soldi, in un momento in cui Clement porta i ragazzi a fare un giro nella pineta, dà fuoco alla struttura e Rachin accusa Clement di aver infranto le regole uscendo dall'istituto con i ragazzi, e lo licenzia. Il suo addio è salutato dai coristi con un lancio di bigliettini sottoforma di aerei e Clement porta il ragazzo a cui si era affezionato di più, Pepinot, via con lui, un sabato. La fine del film si ricollega al suo inizio, dove si vedono Morhange, ormai diventato direttore d'orchestra, e Pepinot adulti che rileggono le memorie scritte da Clement nella sua permanenza nell'istituto e si rendono conto di essere riconoscenti al sorvegliante, che era riuscito a dar loro un futuro.
