The show was first aired on 3 September 2007, the show involves Alan Titchmarsh celebrating the best of British, inviting choice celebrity guests and unsung heroes to have a chat and discuss their experiences and work with Titchmarsh. The show also involves discussing hot topics of the day, with Titchmarsh having debates with regular guests, such as Nick Ferrari, Sue Carroll, Jaci Stephen, Ken Livingstone, Eve Pollard, Andy Collins, Linda Papadopoulos, Gloria Hunniford and Carole Malone. The show is introduced by announcer Anthony Davis. A range of experts join Titchmarsh to give tips and advice on everyday things like food and gardening. Paul O'Grady often makes references to Titchmarsh on his show, The Paul O'Grady Show. The show is broadcast live from Studio TC4 in the BBC Television Centre in London, Monday to Wednesday, with the Thursday and Friday programmes being recorded earlier in the week. Titchmarsh announced on 26 October 2007, that the show would return in December. It was announced on 22 November 2007, that Alan has signed up with ITV for another two years to continue to present his chat show. The show has proved to been so popular with viewers that ITV want him to continue with the show. The ITV Network's controller of daytime programmes Adam MacDonald has said "I'm sure the show will go from strength to strength over the next two years... The first series of The Alan Titchmarsh Show was a supremely confident, top quality programme, which established an instant rapport with the daytime audience". The new series will continue to be made in Studio TC4 at the BBC Television Centre in London, the same studio used for BBC One's Blue Peter and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. It was announced in December 2007 that BBC Resources have secured a three series deal to provide studio facilities for The Alan Titchmarsh Show for ITV. The first series and Christmas specials were recorded from BBC Television Centre and they will continue to be made at BBC Television Centre for series two, three and four. BBC Studios division will provide facilities to record 5 live shows and 5 recorded shows every fortnight. The shows editor David Hall said "This show has very high production values and each show has its own specific requirements. The experience of series one demonstrated that BBC Resources is flexible and accommodating of all our needs. This facility has a rich history of strong programme making, has an exceptional team of talented individuals, and it was an easy decision for us to return". The show returned for a third series on Monday 1 September 2008. It featured the start of a competition to find a soprano to sing alongside Jonathan Ansell in the A Night At The Opera tour. From the thousands of hopefuls who applied 8 ladies were selected to sing in front of a judging panel of David Grant, Ruthie Henshall and Jonathan Shalit. The 4 successful ladies Rosie Bell, Rosie Havel, Olivia Safe and Esther Dee faced a public vote on 15 September 2008 and Olivia Safe and Rosie Bell won through. They both sang with Jonathan Ansell Libiamo ne' lieti calici, the most famous duet from Verdi's La Traviata on 29 September 2008 and Olivia Safe won the public vote to appear in the tour of A Night At the Opera during October and November 2008. The STV channel serving central and northern Scotland ITV regions has not taken up the new series which started on 1 September, screening repeats of Inspector Morse instead in the 3-4pm slot. Viewers in the STV Central and North regions either need to be a Sky Digital or Virgin Media customer to watch the show on ITV1, or access to the internet to see streaming of the programme on itv. com.
