  • The Acute are an alternative Rock band from Edinburgh, Scotland who were formed in September 2004 by Stephen A. Cute, Ross Ramsay, and Douglas McDonald. The band played extensively in and around Edinburgh, and gained quite a large following in Scotland. This led to a feature in the NME's Radar section, which said: "Marrying the thunderous riffage of early Manics and Smashing Pumpkins to the new-wave melodies of Gary Numan, The Acute have a reputation as one of the best live bands in the country " Striving to play to a wider audience, the band played one of their first gigs out of Scotland in November 2006 at the Stay Beautiful Club in The Purple Turtle in Camden, London. The gig was so successful that the band was asked by organiser Simon Price to return to the club to play the following May. The gig was packed, and received a positive review by the Independent On Sunday. Fans of the band include US rock band Interpol, as well as Nicky Wire from the Manic Street Preachers. In early 2007, The Acute signed to Newcastle based Merdoc Records, who released their debut single, the double A-side "Secret Shame/Horizontal" in the October 2007. The band played dates in Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham and London to promote the single. Their debut album has been recorded and is currently being mixed. The single release was a one off deal with Merdoc records at the bands request.
