Thaddeus Betts was a United States Senator from Connecticut. He completed preparatory studies and was graduated from Yale College in 1807. Betts studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1810 and commenced practice in Norwalk. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1815 and 1830, and a member of the Connecticut Senate in 1831. In 1832 and 1834, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, and was elected as a Whig to the U.S.

Bis zu seiner Rückkehr in die Kammer dauerte es allerdings 15 Jahre: 1830 verbrachte er eine weitere Amtsperiode im House, ehe er im Jahr darauf Abgeordneter im Staatssenat wurde. 1832 erfolgte die Wahl zum Vizegouverneur des Staates Connecticut; nach einjähriger Pause wurde Betts 1834 erneut in dieses Amt gewählt. Schließlich gewann er 1838 die Wahl zum US-Senator und trat sein Amt am 4. März 1839 an. Doch bereits im folgenden Jahr verstarb Thaddeus Betts in Washington. Er wurde in seinem Heimatort Norwalk beigesetzt.
