Théâtre Lyrique was the name of one of three most famous, but separate, 19th century opera houses in Paris. Originally located among other theatres at Boulevard du Temple (early named as Opèra-National at Théâtre-Historique, then Théâtre Lyrique), in 1862 it was moved to the Place du Châtelet on the bank of Seine and renamed as Théâtre-Lyrique Impérial.

Since its successful inauguration in 1851, it lasted for full 19 consecutive seasons (till 1870), subsequently being burnt down during recapturing of Paris at end of the Paris Commune in May 1871. Although after destruction it has been eventually rebuilt (in 1874), the building closely resembling original, its repertoire no longer includes operas.

Un bon nombre d'òperes franceses es van estrenar al teatre, destacant: Si j'étais roi d'Adolphe Adam el 1852 Les Dragons de Villars de Aimé Maillart el 1856 Faust de Gounod el 1859 Les Troyens de Berlioz el 1863 Les pêcheurs de perles de Bizet el 1863 La jolie fille de Perth de Bizet el 1867 Roméo et Juliette de Gounod el 1867 També algunes òperes no franceses hi van tenir èxit: Orfeo ed Euridice de Gluck el novembre de 1859 (sota la direcció de Berlioz) Macbeth de Verdi el 1865 (versió revisada i ampliada).

Dall'inaugurazione del 1851, ebbe 19 stagioni consecutive di grande successo (fino al 1870) quando subì un incendio durante la riconquista di Parigi alla fine della comune di Parigi nel maggio 1871. Nonostante dopo l'incendio sia stato ricostruito nel 1874, rispettando le linee del progetto originale, il suo repertorio non comprende più le opere liriche.
