He joined the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the A-League in 1999 and played there for two seasons, before signing with the Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire for the stretch run. He has been in MLS since, with the Columbus Crew (2001), the Dallas Burn (2002-2003), and the MetroStars, who acquired Tenywa from Dallas for Steve Jolley before the 2004 season. An extremely durable player who has cracked starting lineups wherever he has played, the quiet, solid, versatile player was one of the youngest players ever selected to appear for the national team of Uganda. He has 21 appearances for Uganda. In five seasons in MLS, Bonseu played in 87 regular season and 11 playoff games (starting all but three). He played four seasons with the Rochester Rhinos from 2005 through 2008. After just one season in USL he was picked up by the Chicago Fire during the MLS playoff run in 2000 and played all 90 minutes in the Fire's 1-0 loss to Kansas City. Bonseu was picked up at the end of the season and started every playoff game for the Fire. The following season he was placed in the player pool for the MLS draft and was chosen by Coach Tom Fitzgerald of the Columbus Crew. Bonseu then went on a run where he started nearly every game. A fixture of Bonseu's career is that he can play in the center of the defense, as a right back, or defensive midfield. Indeed, early in his career, the 6-1, 185-pound Bonseu played forward in Africa.
