Tchaourou is a commune and city located in the Borgou Department of Benin, a country in Western Africa, formerly known as Dahomey (until 1975). It is the birthplace of current Beninese president Yayi Boni. It is 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of Parakou. Tchaourou is one of the largest municipalities in the Department of Benin Borgou. It is home to people of various ethnic groups, mainly Nagot, Bariba and Fulani peoples. Tchaourou is a mainly agricultural town.

It is the birthplace of current Beninese president Yayi Boni. It is 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of Parakou. Tchaourou is one of the largest municipalities in the Department of Benin Borgou. It is home to people of various ethnic groups, mainly Nagot, Bariba and Fulani peoples. Tchaourou is a mainly agricultural town. However, illegal activities in the sale of fuel were developed in the region, given its proximity to its major oil neighbor, Nigeria. The current mayor is Soulé Biyaou Abou. Tchaourou was once one of the most popular for the Fulani from the north of the country. As a result of the seasonal migration, several fodder trees such as Khaya senegalensis, Afzelia africana, which were common, are now very rare in the town. However, the disappearance of valuable species of trees, is caused by a combination of slash and burn shifting cultivation, exploitation of wood, a deforestation is very commons, particularly logging for tree bark for traditional medicines made by the Fulani herdsmen.

Cependant, des activités de vente illicites de carburant, connu sous le non de "Kpayo", se sont développées dans la région, compte tenu de sa proximité du grand voisin pétrolier, le Nigeria. Tchaourou était jadis l'une des destinations les plus appréciées des transhumants Peuls en provenance du Nord du pays ou des pays limitrophes du Nord. En conséquence de cette migration saisonnière, plusieurs arbres fourragers comme le Khaya senegalensis, Afzelia africana, qui ont été fréquents, sont à présent très rares dans la commune. Toutefois, la disparition de ces très utiles espèces d'arbres, est due à l'action combinée de l'agriculture itinérante sur brûlis, de l'exploitation de leurs bois, un bois d'œuvre très prisé, de ses écorces pour la médecine traditionnelle et de l'émondage par les bergers Peuls.
