  • Le Tavistock Institute a été fondé en 1947 par Henry Dicks, Leonard Browne, Ronald Hargreaves, John Rawlings Rees, Mary Luff et Wilfred Bion. Tommy Wilson en fut le premier Président. Le nom originel était Tavistock Institute of Human Relations. Son objet était principalement l’étude du comportement de groupe et du comportement organisationnel. Kurt Lewin, eut une grande influence sur le travail de l’institut. Plusieurs membres de l’institut devaient jouer des rôles importants dans les affaires mondiales, comme John Rawlings Rees qui devint le premier président de la World Federation for Mental Health.

  • De Tavistock Groep was een gezelschap van sociale wetenschappers die vanuit de Tavistock Clinic in Londen in 1946 met behulp van Amerikaanse fondsen het Tavistock Institute of Human Relations oprichtten. De onderlinge verbondenheid van deze groep was gebaseerd op hun gedeelde oorlogservaringen (velen dienden als officier) en de invloed van Melanie Klein op hun opleiding in de psychoanalyse. Tot de oprichters van het Tavistock Institute of Human Relations behoorden Wilfred Bion, John Bowlby, Harold Bridger, Ronny Hargreaves, Elliott Jaques, Isabel Menzies, Ben Morris, Jock Sutherland, Eric Trist, en Tommy Wilson. In Nederland is dit oa. uitgewerkt in de sociotechniek van Ulbo de Sitter.
