Taplow railway station is situated near the A4 south of the village. The village name is Anglo Saxon in origin, and means 'Tæppa's hill'; the Anglo-Saxon burial mound of Taeppa can still be visited. It was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Thapeslau.
