Today, nearly 990 million people worldwide are without access to safe and clean drinking water. Meanwhile, every day 4,200 children die from water related diseases. By the year 2015 UNICEF plans to reduce the number of people without unsafe drinking water and living without basic sanitation by 50%. In efforts to Tap Project solving the world’s water problem, they are also growing. What started with 300 restaurants in New York City in 2007 has grown to 2300 in America in 2008. In 2009, UNICEF has 150 participating countries in helping to solve this world problem. The Tap Project has national supporters such as American Express and Turner Broadcasting. Another supporter, Watergeeks a water apparel company will donate 20% of its retail merchandise from November 17, 2008 through June 30, 2009 for 2009 World Water Week. The project also boasts celebrity sponsors such as Clay Aiken, Lucy Liu and Joel Madden.
