Taourirt is a town in the Northern part of Morocco. Situated in the Rif mountains about 100 km south of the city of Nador and the Spanish-occupied Melilla city. The town is important as a transport link: the main East-West railway from Casablanca - Rabat - Fez in the West to Oujda in the East runs through Taourirt. Also busline running from several cities in the Nador province (including the city of Nador) make a stop in the town.

A new branch line of the Moroccan railways is running from Taourirt to Nador, and openend in 2009. This line runs alongside the existing road, through the mountains, to Nador. Anciennement appelée Qasba Moulay Ismaïl, en l'honneur du sultan qui lui offrit ses remparts, la ville tenait une place importante dans la défense du royaume chérifien. Située à la croisée de la route Fès Oujda, et de l'axe commercial entre Sidjilmassa et l'Europe, la ville fut en proie à de longues guerres dynastiques aux XIII siècle et XIV siècle.
