O teste é oferecido duas vezes ano ano em diversos países. O teste é dividido em quatro partes (vocabulário - gramática, redação, áudio e leitura). Cada parte tem um valor máximo de 100 pontos, totalizando 400 pontos no total. O resultado final é a média das quatro partes. Atualmente não existe avaliação oral. Existem três versões do teste (iniciante, intermediário e avançado).
  • 韓國語能力考試（英文：Test of Proficiency in Korean，簡稱TOPIK）是韓國教育課程評價院舉行的韓文能力考試，對象為母語不是韓文的外國人、以及海外朝鮮族僑胞，每年4月及9月在世界各地舉行。 韓國語能力考試分為一般韓國語（Standard TOPIK，簡稱S-TOPIK）及 實務韓國語（Business TOPIK，簡稱B-TOPIK）兩種。S-TOPIK測試一般韓文能力，當中設初、中、高三種程度可供應考。初級者成績可分為1、2級，中級者分為3、4級，高級者分為5、6級。B-TOPIK則只設一種程度，考核內容偏重就業時所需的韓文能力。 S-TOPIK及B-TOPIK測試考生4個領域的韓文能力，而各領域佔總分比重相同，分別為寫作、語法及詞彙、聽力、閱讀。考生應考時先考寫作、語法及詞彙，限時90分鐘；稍作休息後，再完成聽力、閱讀部分，同樣限時90分鐘。當中除了S-TOPIK寫作卷有60%為主觀回答題，其餘所有考題均為4選1的客觀選擇題。
