- P2 is one of the four main radio networks of Sveriges Radio, the Swedish public radio company. It is used to broadcast musical programming, educational programming and programmes in minority languages. The channel started in 1955 as Sweden's second radio channel. On 1966, SR gave its channels different profiles, making P2 the channel for educational programmes, regional programmes and "serious" music. The regional radio was replaced by the local radio and moved to P3, and eventually to P4, giving P2 the profile it has today. The music played on P2 is mostly classical music, jazz and folk music. This makes P2 a sister station to many other similar public radio stations around the world, such as BBC Radio 3, CBC Radio 2, ABC Classic FM, DR P2, WDR 3, France Musique and Dwójka PR. Programming in minority languages is provided by SR Sisuradio, SR Sameradion, and SR International. Educational programmes from Utbildningsradion are also broadcast on P2. The educational and minority programmes are however a minor part of P2, mainly slotted in the early morning and in the afternoon. SR does however provide an all music version of P2 with the minority and educational programming replaced by music. This was for a long time available on FM radio in Malmö and Stockholm (called P2 Malmö and P2 Stockholm respectively) and since 2000 on the Internet under the name "P2 Musik". As SR launched the new stations Din gata 100,6 and SR Metropol, the FM frequencies for P2 Musik where taken over by other stations. It does however continue to be available on the Internet, since April 2007 with the name "P2 Alltid Musik", and in Stockholm there is also P6 89,6 which works as a "reversed P2" with classical music when there is minority programmes on P2 and vice versa. As of May 11, 2009 P2 in Stockholm is an all music channel that rebroadcasts "P2 Alltid Musik". All minority and foreign language programmes in Stockholm have moved to P6 89,6 FM. As the other four SR channels, P2 is transmitted on a nationwide network with coverage in virtually all of Sweden.

SR P2 ist landesweit über ein gut ausgebautes UKW-Sendernetz zu empfangen, beispielsweise deckt die mit 60 KW aus dem südschwedischen Hörby sendende 92,40 MHz die dänische Insel Seeland und die deutsche Insel Rügen ab. Seit dem 2. April 2007 sendet P2 auch als Internet-Radiosender.

Elle consacre la plupart de sa programmation à la musique classique, au jazz, à la musique folk et à la world music. En dehors de Stockholm et de la diffusion sur internet, certaines heures sont aussi dédiées à la retransmission de programmes de Sveriges Radio International en différentes langues. La station a été la deuxième à être fondée en Suède, en 1955. En 1966, Sveriges Radio avait redéfini l'orientation de ses stations et P2 fut alors dédiée aux programmes éducatifs et régionaux ainsi qu'à la musique "sérieuse". Les programmes régionaux furent ensuite transférés sur P3 puis à nouveau sur P4. Ses programmes actuels la rendent similaire à France Musique, BBC Radio 3, CBC Radio 2, ABC Classic FM, DR P2 et WDR 3.

Kanalen sänder sedan Sveriges Radio profilerades den 12 december 1966 bland annat klassisk musik/konstmusik, jazz, samt folk- och världsmusik. Elektronisk konstmusik finns också med. I riksnätet sänds musikprogram på morgonen fram till halv två då Utbildningsradion tar över i en halvtimme, följt av minoritetsspråk fram till klockan 18. Över FM-nätet i Stockholm samt i webbradio sänder P2 musik dygnet runt. Den 16 januari 2006 invigdes en ny tablå med modernare snitt, och även om huvudfokus fortfarande ligger på klassisk musik/konstmusik så finns även andra sorters program som till exempel Kalejdoskop och Kjell Alinges Eldorado. Den 2 april 2007 började P2 sända som webbradiokanal. Strax före kanalprofileringen den 12 december 1966, då P2 ännu spelade populärmusik, besjöng Siw Malmkvist 1966 kanalen i sin cover på Lucky Lips, "Slit och släng", med inledningsorden I tidningar och P2 tutar folk från morr'n till kväll.
